It's been quite a while since I've been adventurous and tried a new recipe.  It's also been a long time since I've tried a new breakfast recipe.  I mean, between eggs, bacon, waffles, pancakes, oatmeal, and fruit, what's really left to do?  Well, today I ventured out to try a new recipe for breakfast.  That is, it's nothing Earth shaking, but it's new to me.  As you can see, I made doughnuts.  This recipe is quite small, because I only had one egg.  For just the two of us, though, it made plenty for us both with a few left over.  Be careful when dropping the dough into the oil.  It expands quite a lot, so don't make your doughnuts too big

1 large egg
1/3 Cup sugar
1 Tbs canola oil
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 Cup milk
1 1/3 Cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cinnamon

  1. Beat egg for about a minute
  2. Combine sugar, oil, vanilla and milk in a separate bowl
  3. Add egg to mixture and beat for 2 minutes
  4. Combine flour, salt, baking powder, nutmeg, and cinnamon
  5. Add egg mixture to flour mixture and mix well
  6. Drop by teaspoons into hot fat or oil, turning drops when they're browned on one side
  7. Pull doughnuts from oil and place on paper towel-covered plate to absorb excess oil
